Power Flushing
“Powerflushing” is a cleansing process which has the ability to remove sludge, rust and other debris that could be clogging up your central heating system.
This build-up of sludge can have a detrimental effect on your heating systems efficiency and Powerflushing is considered the best method to solve it. In some extreme cases, sludge can be so damaging that a complete boiler replacement is required.
If you’re experiencing any of the below issues it would suggest that you require a powerflush:
Cold areas on radiators (especially at the bottom)
Excessive noise from the boiler or the heating system pump
Discoloured water when you bleed the radiators or no water escapes at all
Heating is slow to warm up or some radiators struggle to heat up as much as others
Radiators cold but pipes are hot
Boiler regularly shuts down and needs restarting
Noisy radiators and or / boiler
By having a regular annual service a Powerflush should only be necessary every five years or so to help clear debris and prevent any significant blockages from taking a firm hold. If you are planning to replace your boiler soon it may be worth considering a Powerflush before the installation, one of our engineers will be able to advise you on this. You don’t want to risk contaminating the new boiler with any damaging sludge and debris that’s hanging around in the old pipework.
The main benefits of carrying out this cleanse are:
Radiators will heat up quicker and get hotter
Quieter radiators / boiler
Cheaper energy bills as a result of a more efficient system
Higher hot water temperatures
Increase the life of your heating system
The whole process typically takes one full day or less depending on the number of radiators in your home, the age of the system and the severity of the sludge in the system. Please always use a qualified engineer as carrying out the work on your heating system by yourself may invalidate any manufacturer’s warranty you have and could potentially be harmful and extremely messy if not performed correctly.
